Important Information
The Council of College of Physiotherapists of Alberta is competency based. To appreciate and understand the current needs and the core competencies expected from both individual council members and the Council as a whole we encourage you to see Council Composition Matrix for the attributes, competencies and experiences that will support you in serving on Council should you be appointed. This document may help you identify which strengths to highlight and the perspectives and experience you have that will add value to the current Council. This is by no means an exhaustive list, however, it will give candidates a sense of the attributes, competencies and experiences we are looking for. Your application can include additional information you feel is relevant and supports your suitability.

The College does not expect any one Council member to have all of the attributes, competencies and experiences listed, however having a team that has many of them, will contribute to the success of Council.

A person who wishes to serve on Council must know and understand the role of the College and the Council as set out in the Health Professions Act. In addition, the applicant must support and honour the mission, vision and values of the College.

All those interested in applying for vacant Council positions are required to complete a short education module to help you understand the role of the college and the role of a council member.

The Council Composition Matrix is by no means an exhaustive list; however, it gives candidates a sense of the attributes, competencies and experiences we are looking for in a Council member. The College of Physiotherapists of Alberta recognizes that new Council members will have gaps in their knowledge and the college will offer education, learning opportunities, and access to resources and support.

If appointed to Council, you will be expected during your three-year term of office to demonstrate a clear and ongoing commitment to acquire the skills, practices, and knowledge outlined here to become as effective as possible in your role.

Financial Oversight*

Accounting or financial experience. The ability to support board members without this experience execute their financial oversight responsibilities. Includes analyzing and interpreting financial statements, budgets, and understanding financial reporting.
